Course Description
This course is designed to equip veterinarians with skills and knowledge in this crucial orthopedic procedure. TPLO has become the gold standard for treating cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) rupture in dogs, offering great outcomes and improved long-term joint stability. Patients with cruciate ligament ruptures and a concomitant patellar luxation, however, can be challenging to treat with TPLO.

In this course, you will learn about the diagnostics and treating options focusing on the Rita Leibinger RAPID Patella Luxation TPLO System, which can address both pathologies in one surgery.   It aims to provide a thorough understanding of TPLO principles, techniques, and surgical considerations through a blend of theoretical learning, practical demonstrations, and hands-on experience. Led by board certified veterinary surgeons, Dr. Yves Samoy and Dr. Geert Verhoeven, participants will delve into the intricacies of TPLO surgery including comprehensive discussions on the clinical evaluation of anterior cruciate ligament ruptures and the indications for TPLO, patient selection and preoperative planning, surgical execution, and postoperative management.

Throughout the course, participants will:

  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of the biomechanics of the stifle joint, the pathophysiology of CCL rupture, and the rationale behind TPLO as a surgical solution.
  • Learn the principles of patient assessment, including diagnostic imaging modalities, physical examination findings, and the importance of individualized treatment plans.
  • Explore the surgical technique of TPLO step-by-step, covering key aspects such as osteotomy planning, plate selection, implant placement, and intraoperative decision-making.
  • Learn how to employ the LeiLOX TPLO System in conjunction with patellar luxation correction
  • Develop proficiency in managing intraoperative complications and addressing challenging cases, ensuring confident and successful outcomes.
  • Understand the principles of postoperative care, rehabilitation protocols, and long-term monitoring to optimize patient recovery and joint function.
  • Engage in hands-on practical sessions under expert guidance to translate theoretical knowledge into practice and familiarize oneself with the latest implants.
  • Participate in interactive discussions and case studies, fostering critical thinking and problem-solving abilities in managing TPLO cases effectively.
About LeiLOX TPLO
The Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO) is a proven technique for treating cruciate ligament ruptures in dogs. Our LeiLOX TPLO systems are suitable for all breeds of dogs and also for cats. With multi-axial locking screws capable of insertion at both a 90° angle and with a deviation of up to 12° in any direction, we ensure the flexibility necessary to safeguard critical structures such as the osteotomy gap and joint surfaces. Two precisely designed compression holes allow for very strong compression of the osteotomy, supporting bone healing. Our implants are made from high quality medical-grade stainless steel, and are designed to correspond to the anatomical contours of bones. Moreover, we now offer TPLO Swing implants in Titanium, enhancing biocompatibility, reducing weight, and ensuring temperature resilience. These implants are also pre-formed caudally, facilitating optimal placement on the two fragments.

Rita Leibinger’s LeiLOX TPLO Systems goes further by offering simultaneous correction of medial patellar luxation. Leveraging a technique akin to the successful RAPID Luxation System, a specialized instrument allows precise medial shifting of the proximal fragment before final fixation.
