What you will learn

Your benefits in a nutshell

In our workshop on Fracture Treatment in Cats and Dogs with the 2.0-3.5 mm LeiLOX System and LeiLOX 1.5/2.0 mm (Titanium) Micro Locking System, you will learn the following:

  • Basics of Osteosynthesis: Understanding the fundamental principles and techniques of osteosynthesis, including the different methods of stabilizing fractures.
  • Types of Fractures: Identify and classify fractures commonly seen in cats and dogs, including open, closed, comminuted, and compound fractures.
  • Healing of Fractures: Understand the biological processes involved in fracture healing, including the stages of inflammation, repair, and remodeling.
  • Development of Plate Systems and Locking Systems: Learn about the evolution and development of plate systems used in fracture fixation, including advancements in design and material composition. Understand the mechanics and advantages of locking systems in fracture fixation, including increased stability and reduced risk of implant failure.
  • Approach to Diaphysis: Tibia: Learn techniques for approaching and stabilizing fractures of the tibia in small animals. Femur: Discover strategies for addressing fractures of the femur, a common weight-bearing bone in cats and dogs. Radius & Ulna: Explore approaches to treating fractures of the radius and ulna, including considerations for joint stability.
  • Fracture Fixation Techniques: Gain hands-on training in various fracture fixation techniques, including plating, pinning, and external fixation methods.
  • Selection of Implants: Understand the factors influencing implant selection, including fracture type, location, and patient factors such as size and weight.
  • Special Applications: Rod and Plate: Learn about the application of rods and plates in fracture fixation, including their advantages and limitations. Minimal Invasive Plate Osteosynthesis: Discover techniques for minimally invasive fracture fixation, which can reduce surgical trauma and promote faster recovery.
  • Pitfalls and Solutions: Identify common challenges and complications encountered in fracture treatment and learn strategies to address them effectively.

In addition to these topics, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience using sawbone and/or cadaveric models to practice fracture fixation techniques. Question and answer sessions will provide opportunities for clarification and deeper understanding of the material covered in the course. Overall, you will leave the course with enhanced knowledge and skills in fracture treatment, enabling you to provide better care for small animals with fractures.
