Course Description
This workshop offers comprehensive training in the diagnosis and surgical treatment of cervical spine disorders in dogs, with a specific focus on utilizing the C-LOX Spinal Implant System.

Here are the highlights of this course:

  • Caudal Cervical Spondylomyelopathy (CCSM): This portion of the workshop would cover the pathology, clinical presentation, and diagnostic criteria for CCSM, also known as Wobbler Syndrome. You will learn about the typical signs and symptoms seen in dogs affected by this condition, as well as the importance of accurate diagnosis for effective treatment planning.
  • Diagnostic Imaging of the Cervical Spine: This segment would focus on various imaging modalities used to evaluate the cervical spine in dogs, such as radiography, computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). You will learn how to interpret imaging findings related to conditions like CCSM and understand the role of imaging in surgical planning.
  • C-LOX: Implants, Instruments, Surgical Planning, and Application Technique: You will receive detailed instruction on the design, components, and surgical technique associated with C-LOX spinal implants. This would include information on the different sizes and configurations of C-LOX implants available, as well as guidance on selecting the appropriate implant for specific cases. Surgical planning would involve discussion of patient selection criteria, preoperative assessment, and intraoperative considerations for successful implantation.
  • Hands-On Training (Wet Lab): In this practical session, you will have the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills you have learned in a simulated surgical setting using cadaveric models. This hands-on experience allows you to practice implantation techniques under the guidance of Dr. Björn Meij, enhancing your confidence and proficiency in performing spinal surgeries with C-LOX implants.

About C-LOX
C-LOX is a spinal disk replacement implant for the cervical spine of dogs. This intervertebral anchored fusion spacer can be used for the treatment of
Canine Cervical Spondylomyelopathy (Wobbler Syndrome) and provides a valuable alternative to the more complicated distraction-fusion techniques.C-LOX was developed by RITA LEIBINGER in cooperation with Prof. Dr. Franck Forterre, Bern University (Switzerland). The open sponge Titanium construct of our C-LOX Cages allows for rapid bone growth throughout the cage.

Instructor: Dr. Björn Meij (DVM, PhD, Dipl. ECVS, MRCVS)
Björn Meij is a Dutch veterinarian, professor and European specialist (Diplomate ECVS) in small animal surgery since 1993.
