Course Description
Welcome to our comprehensive TPLO (Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy) course designed to equip veterinarians with advanced skills and knowledge in this crucial orthopedic procedure. TPLO has become the gold standard for treating cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) rupture in dogs, offering great outcomes and improved long-term joint stability.

Our course aims to provide a thorough understanding of TPLO principles, techniques, and surgical considerations through a blend of theoretical learning, practical demonstrations, and hands-on experience. Led by board certified veterinary surgeon, Dr. Elaine Holmes, participants will delve into the intricacies of TPLO surgery, from patient selection and preoperative planning to surgical execution and postoperative management.

Throughout the course, participants will:

  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of the biomechanics of the stifle joint, the pathophysiology of CCL rupture, and the rationale behind TPLO as a surgical solution.
  • Learn the principles of patient assessment, including diagnostic imaging modalities, physical examination findings, and the importance of individualized treatment plans.
  • Explore the surgical technique of TPLO step-by-step, covering key aspects such as osteotomy planning, plate selection, implant placement, and intraoperative decision-making.
  • Develop proficiency in managing intraoperative complications and addressing challenging cases, ensuring confident and successful outcomes.
  • Understand the principles of postoperative care, rehabilitation protocols, and long-term monitoring to optimize patient recovery and joint function.
  • Engage in hands-on practical sessions using anatomical models and cadaveric specimens, allowing for the application and refinement of surgical skills under expert guidance.
  • Participate in interactive discussions and case studies, fostering critical thinking and problem-solving abilities in managing TPLO cases effectively.
