What you will learn
The Arthoscopy Workshop covers fundamental concepts and techniques essential for performing arthroscopic procedures in animals, and will provide participants with a solid foundation in arthroscopic surgery, focusing on key principles and skills necessary to incorporate arthroscopy into their veterinary practice.
Here are some topics that may be covered in the workshop:
- Anatomy and Pathophysiology: Understanding the anatomy and biomechanics of the joints, including common variations and pathologies.
- Instrumentation and Equipment: Familiarization with the specialized arthroscopic instruments and equipment used in veterinary orthopedic surgery, including scopes, cannulas, shavers, graspers, and implants.
- Patient Selection and Preparation: Identifying suitable candidates for arthroscopic procedures, preoperative evaluation, patient positioning, and surgical site preparation.
- Surgical Techniques: Hands-on training in a variety of arthroscopic surgical techniques, including joint entry, visualization, debridement, lavage, biopsy, ligament stabilization, meniscal repair, and cartilage procedures.
- Practical Sessions: Hands-on practice using cadaveric specimens to reinforce basic arthroscopic techniques and instrument handling skills.
- Advanced Topics: Depending on the workshop's duration and focus, additional advanced topics may include joint arthrodesis, osteochondral grafting, fracture fixation, and emerging techniques in regenerative medicine.
The workshops typically combine didactic lectures, interactive discussions, cadaveric labs, and simulated surgical sessions to provide a comprehensive learning experience.
