Course Description |
This workshop will provide an exploration of the cannulated headless compression screw system, covering its design, materials, and surgical applications. Participants will gain valuable insights into the indications for these implants, including elbow condylar fractures, ununited anconeal process (UAP), and hip procedures. The course will cover anatomical approaches to the elbow and hip, as well as preoperative planning considerations. Participants will also engage in practical hands-on learning and demonstrations to refine surgical skills in a realistic setting. The session will conclude with a discussion on potential complications, along with expert tips and tricks to enhance surgical outcomes. This workshop is designed for surgeons looking to expand their expertise in orthopedic fixation techniques using headless compression screws. |

Dr. Yves Samoy, DVM, PhD, ECVSMR |
Yves Samoy graduated in 2003 cum laude at Ghent University, Belgium. After graduation, he continued to work at Ghent University at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Morphology, Medical Imaging, Orthopaedics, Physiotherapy and Nutrition to improve his orthopedic skills.
From 2006 to June 2012, he was a full time assistant in the Orthopedic department. During this period, he laid the basis of the physiotherapy and rehabilitation unit at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. B. Van Ryssen he finished his PhD on Elbow incongruity in the dog in 2011. Since July 2012 he is Doctoral Assistant in the Orthopedic department and is involved in all kinds of orthopedic surgery including arthroscopy. He is also the developing surgeon behind the TTA Rapid technique. Since 2015 he is CCRP certified by Ghent University and in charge of the Rehabilitation & Physiotherapy Unit. In 2019 he became a diplomate of the European college of veterinary sports medicine and rehabilitation. Yves Samoy is author or co-author of several orthopaedic publications in international journals. |
