How it works and advantages<\/span><\/h4>\n

These holes are designed to facilitate compression at the osteotomy site, enhancing bone-to-bone contact and promoting faster and more robust healing.<\/p>\n

Enhanced Compression<\/h3>\n

The head of the LeiLOX TPLO, CBLO, and CCWO plates have two, three, or four locking screw holes (depending on the plate size), and is placed and secured on the proximal bone fragment. See 3, 4, 5<\/span><\/em><\/strong>The two dynamic compression holes are located at its shaft, with one or two locking holes in between (depending on the plate size).See 1, 2<\/span><\/em><\/strong>\"\"<\/span>These holes are oval-shaped with an eccentrically placed slope that acts like a glide path for the screw head and is directed towards the center of the plate (or towards the osteotomy site). See image at right<\/span><\/em><\/strong>\"\"<\/span>When a cortical screw is eccentrically positioned into the compression hole (loaded position) and tightened, the screw head slides down this slope, moving plate and bone longitudinally towards each other, thus generating compression of the two bone fragments. This compression stabilizes the osteotomy site and helps promotes direct bone healing. See image at right<\/span><\/em><\/strong>\"\"<\/span>Note: Cortical screws may be placed into the compression holes in either load or neutral positions, depending on whether or not interfragmentary compression is desired.\"\"<\/span>\"\"<\/span><\/p>\n

Minimized Micro-Motion<\/strong><\/h3>\n

By promoting compression at the osteotomy site, dynamic compression holes help to minimize micro-motion between the bone fragments. Micro-motion can interfere with the formation of a stable bone union by disrupting the delicate process of callus formation and remodeling. By reducing micro-motion, dynamic compression holes create an environment conducive to optimal bone healing.<\/p>\n

Biological Response<\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n

The compression generated by dynamic compression holes also stimulates a biological response within the bone. Compression forces trigger the release of growth factors and cytokines, which promote bone healing and remodeling. This biological response accelerates the formation of new bone tissue and enhances the strength of the bone-implant interface.<\/p>\n
